In 2000, Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman was released as a pay-per-view event in Japan and was later released on video
and DVD. Perhaps the most violent of all the anime incarnations of the Devilman franchise, it covers the period between the
humans becoming aware of demons and the final battle between Devilman and Satan. However, in this version, rather than battling
Satan, Akira is forced to face his literal "inner demon", Amon, in the final battle.
Apocalypse takes place in a present time, when the demon threat is known to mankind. On television, Ryo Asuka (Satan) tells
of the demons ability to disguise itself as human and shows the world the horror of Devilman in battle, causing wide panic
and slaughter among the confused humans. Miki and her little brother are then brutaly murdered by a mob of crazed neighbors.
When Akira Fudo (Devilman) arrives home to see the mob with Miki's severed head on a staff, the true raging begins.
The demons seem to have broken into warring factions with Devilman stuck in the middle. Amon is angered by Satan for Satan
allowing Amon to be trapped in a human body. Amon attacks Satan, only to be repelled by PsychoGenie.
The climax is reached when Amon and Devilman meet for battle. Devilman who is almost completely
defeated by Amon, feels the suffering, grief and the loss of Miki in his still human heart and rises again, more enraged than
ever...
